A gentle essay by David Singer appeared a few months ago with the title "A Couple of Simple Strategies to Let Others Be Happier". Singer suggests:
- Let others be right. — Don't get into pointless arguments over tiny details that don't matter in the bigger scheme of things. Even if you know they're wrong, don't make people look bad by correcting them unnecessarily.
- Let others be generous. — Don't say "I already know" when well-intentioned people pass along news that you've already heard. Thank them, as you would if they gave you a small gift of something that you don't need.
Simple indeed, and things I need to practice much more of.
